I was born on October 18, 1973 in Breno (Brescia), a small town in northern Italy. I earned the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1998 and the Specialization degree in General Surgery in 2004 from the University of Brescia under the supervision and mentoring of professor Stefano Maria Giulini. Next, I broadened and deepened my surgical training with residential courses and visiting periods in excellent medical centers in Italy, Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom.

Currently, I am a general surgeon and surgical oncology specialist in the 3rd Division of General Surgery at the Spedali Civili hospital in Brescia (Italy). In July 2018, I have been ranked among the top 3 candidates eligible for the position of Chief of Surgery in the 1st Division of General Surgery at the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo (Italy).

I am Associate Professor of General Surgery in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences of the University of Brescia. In 2017 I have been awarded the Italian National Scientific Abilitation as Full Professor in General Surgery. In October 2018 I have been appointed Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

My surgical track-record (in election, as well as in urgency/emergency) covers all fields of general surgery with traditional and the latest mini-invasive techniques (advanced laparoscopic and robotic). In the past few years, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliopancreatic surgical oncology are two fields for which I have developed a special surgical interest. I also perform organ harvesting. Since 2005 I have been taking care of about 12,000 patients and performed 5,900 surgical procedures, half of which as lead surgeon and in high percentage with minimally invasive techniques.

With regards to my scientific activity, I focus on gastrointestinal surgery (esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum), hepatobiliopancreatic surgery, and emergency surgery. I published 230 scientific works and attended more than 210 national and international medical congresses as invited speaker, moderator, or discussant. I have been the Scientific Director of two recent international conferences (Brescia 2017; Milano 2018).

In September 2016 I co-founded the non-profit organization RicerChiAmo, whose mission is to promote scientific research on gastrointestinal tumors.

My wife, Vanessa, is a veterinary in Darfo Boario Terme (Brescia). Our daughters, Chiara and Aurora, enlighten our lives.
